TRC Companies Drafter II - Mapping in Houston, Texas

SUMMARY: Under general direction of a more experienced designer or engineer, plans and develops minor complex designs involving original concepts and modification of standards. Drawings will be produced which show the features of that design.


Other duties may be assigned. The incumbent will be responsible for completing designs and drawings for fabrication and construction. This includes but is not limited to Horizontal Directional Drill drawings, Alignment Sheets, and Permit Plan and Profiles. He/she must make independent decisions on procedures used. The incumbent must be familiar with terminology and practices of the industry and must use them accurately in the preparation of designs and drawings.

Import/Export, review and process survey data in an AutoCAD environment. Many decisions will be made by the incumbent which will affect the successful completion of his/her work. Originates functional designs by using information derived from equipment drawings, general design criteria, codes and standards and data supplied by engineers and prepares drawings reflecting those designs. Reviews vendor drawings, standard details, codes and standards, field data and information provided by project personnel for developing drawings which show details of equipment, layouts and features that will be used for fabrication of construction. Revises drawings as needed to correct details and reflect actual versus planned project feature locations and dimensions. Performs calculations, including material quantity take-offs, for design, layout and detailing of project features.

Associates Degree in drafting or an engineering discipline preferred but not required or High School Diploma (or G.E.D.)


Minimum experience required is 2 years or Associate's Degree in drafting or an engineering discipline.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Requires good oral communication skills.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Good mathematical aptitude for basic algebra, geometry and trigonometry.

REASONING ABILITY: Able to identify problems and seek solutions from more experienced designers.


Drafting courses in high school, college or trade school. Proficient in PC operation, especially in the use of Microstation or AutoCAD. Experience in spreadsheet, word processing and database operations desired. Strong attention to details. Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to work flexible hours, occasionally in excess of a normal 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ability to plan and lay out drawings with moderate supervision. Ability to travel as dictated by job requirements. Ability to plan his/her work. Knowledge of application software used in his/her discipline.
